Student Health Center Vaccination Clinic

Student Health Center Vaccination Clinic The University of Missouri – Columbia (UMC) Student Health Center (SHC) and College of Veterinary Medicine are collaborating to provide pre-exposure rabies vaccination and serological testing for rabies immunity to UMC veterinary students, central Missouri veterinarians and their staff, animal control workers, wildlife workers, and humane society/animal shelter workers.

Please download the official flyer for detailed information

All paperwork should be returned to: JostG@health.missouri.edu

Please send the form electronically, if possible. Otherwise, the form can be returned by regular mail:

Student Health Center
Attn: Nono Jost
1101 Hospital Drive DC800.00
Columbia, MO 65212

The clinics will be held in the Adams Conference Center on the following days from 9 AM to 3 PM:

Friday, September 7, 2007 (Please note: This is the only date where blood for serologic testing and other vaccinations will be offered) Friday, September 14, 2007 Friday, October 5, 2007.

All clinical CVM students must receive this vaccination series. This includes those from Ross and SGU:

"Veterinary medical students are at higher risk for exposure to rabies and tetanus than the general population. Therefore, you will need to provide records of tetanus vaccination within the last 10 years and the final vaccination in an initial series or a booster vaccination for rabies within the last year. Alternatively, a protective rabies titer (1:5 or greater serum dilution RFFIT) should be demonstrated within the past two years."

In most cases, this means that VM-1 students will receive the vaccination series, and VM-3 students will have blood drawn for rabies antibody titer. Please note that most VM-3 students had blood drawn earlier this summer and will not have to be seen for this clinic. Boosters will be given as necessary to students after titers have been evaluated.

If you are a veterinary student who has received a rabies vaccination series elsewhere, please provide Sharon Kimbrell (W203 Vet Med Building) and Nono Jost (Student Health Center) with proof of vaccination.

Payment
UMC-CVM students: SCAVMA and MU grants fund the cost of rabies vaccination for UMC-CVM veterinary students.

Ross and SGU students must pay for their own vaccinations or rabies titers.

Faculty and staff MAY have their vaccinations/blood work paid by departmental/professional development funds. Please consult your department to determine if this option is available. If so, please fill out the registration form and the authorization for payment form.

Outside veterinarians/staff must pay for the cost of their vaccinations.

Other vaccinations are available but will only be given during the clinic on 9/7/07:

Tetanus/diphtheria vaccination boosters are also available and should be given every 10 years (Within 5 years, if injured). An informational brochure can be found here.

Measles/Mumps/Rubella vaccination is required for students prior to entering MU. This injection will also be available if needed.

Hepatitis B vaccination will also be available. Vaccination is encouraged, but is not mandatory at this time.
